Favorite Fictional Moms

I am very grateful for my mother. She was also a writer, though she laments not having any of her old works. She encouraged my writing and is one of my biggest fans. I could wax eloquent about mothers and Mother’s Day, but what I really want to do is just have fun with fictional mothers. I’m going to put some of my favorites here, and I hope you add to my list đŸ™‚

In no specific order:

  • Lily Potter (Harry Potter) – Her ultimate sacrifice and show of love gave Harry a kind of power the “good guys” could hardly understand, and the “bad guys” couldn’t destroy
  • Mrs. Weasley (Harry Potter) – Loving, generous, resourceful, thoughtful, and a force to be reckoned with
  • Nanny Ogg (many appearances in the Discworld books by Sir Terry Prachett) – Hilarious, stern, amazing way of guiding by walking alongside as opposed to trying to lead/drag along
  • Mrs. Aching (Tiffany Aching series of the Discworld books) – Tiffany Aching’s mom was understanding and supportive of Tiffany. She knew when to give Tiffany her space, and she knew when Tiffany (even when she was a witch) needed to be “mothered”
  • Granny Aching (Tiffany Aching series of the Discworld books) – it’s insane how much she impressed upon Tiffany. So much of Tiffany’s amazing growth and maturity, and even her power, comes from Granny Aching
  • Timothy’s mom (House Arrest by K.A. Holt) – against all odds, she does everything she can to keep her small family together after the dad walks away
  • Isabel Pullman (Wonder by R. J.  Palacio) – amazing ability to provide the encouragement, strength, support, and love Auggie needs
  • Dr. Crystal Stanley-Bell (The Crosssover by Kwame Alexander) – no-nonsense, strong woman raising twin boys, dealing with a stubborn husband, and trying to balance a career and her family life. Education is important to her, and she pushes her boys to succeed.
  • I love the mom in the Little Critter books!
  • Kanga in Winnie the Pooh
  • Of course Marmee / Mrs. March in Little Women

Please add to my list!
